No matter how many times I read the plays, each and every time I find it interesting. I just finished reading Othello and still in the hangover of Lago’s villainous thoughts. Lago is the perfect villain. He neither respects moral beauty as seen in Desdemona nor the grand nobleness of the mighty-soul Othello. He is the main reason for the tragic end of the play. It is because of him misunderstandings are created and the main reason for many tragic murders. Lago deceive Othello by making him believe that is love, Desdemona is being unfaithful to him and hints at Cassio’s role in the infidelity.
Cassio is Othello’s lieutenant. Lago arranges for Othello to overhear a conversation between himself and Cassio, joking about Cassio’s mistress Bianca—but making the conversation appear to be about Desdemona. This enrages Othello and accuses Desdemona, leaving her distraught. Lago, then plots to kill Cassio and arranges for his murder. When his plot fails, he tries to kill Cassio and wounds him. . Hearing Cassio’s cries, Othello thinks Iago has killed him, and in the same the same thought leaves to deal with Desdemona. Othello kills Desdemona, strangling her in her bed. This is discovered by Emilia, Logo’s wife who then and tells Othello that Desdemona was innocent and that Lago had lied to him. Later, Othello finds letters that reveal Lago’s plot to kill Cassio. Othello, realising Desdemona was innocent, laments, then stabs Iago, but only wounds him. Lodovico gives Cassio power to rule in Cyprus, and is about to arrest Othello, when Othello commits suicide.
